Christopher Sandberg

Acclaimed for his ‘great sensitivity and radiant tone’ (Der Opernfreund), Swedish violist Christopher Sandberg is a dynamic musician who performs regularly as an orchestral, chamber, and solo artist. In recent years, he has appeared frequently as principal violist with ensembles such as the Malmö Symphony Orchestra, Lübeck Philharmonic Orchestra, Schleswig-Holstein Festival Orchestra, and Elbland Philharmonic Orchestra. He was previously a scholarship holder of the Giuseppe Sinopoli Academy of the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden for two years, performing under renowned conductors including Herbert Blomstedt, Daniele Gatti, and Christian Thielemann.

Chamber music plays a central role in his musical life. He is a prizewinner of the Mozartverein Nuremberg’s Chamber Music Competition and he has been invited to perform at chamber music festivals across Europe, including the Semperoper’s Chamber Music Series, the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, and the Old Ox Music Festival, as well as concerts in the Netherlands and the USA.

In 2022, he made his solo debut on the viola in Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante, performing with Magdalena Waldauf and the West Bohemian Symphony Orchestra Mariánské Lázně. As a violin soloist, he has previously appeared with the Örebro Chamber Strings and the Swedish Chamber Orchestra.

Born in 1996, Christopher Sandberg began violin lessons at the age of four in his hometown of Örebro. His musical training has taken him to Stockholm and Nuremberg, and he is currently studying viola with Florian Richter at the FRANZ LISZT University of Music in Weimar.
